Schools, Clubs and Educational Visits.

The Museum, apart from being a fun place to visit, is also an educational resource where ‘hands on’ experience can reinforce classroom learning illustrating not only the history of railways but also how they affected the social history of the country and changed the way many peoples lives.

Tours are designed around the age of pupils. These are offered on Wednesdays when most volunteers are available.

“Early years” visits are of a “Showover” nature, where less detailed information is given.

As a condition of booking groups are asked to arrive with some pre-arranged element, this can be delivered in our classroom.

Years 4 to 6 will have a tour guide assigned, who will be able to deliver greater educational content. It would be useful if these groups can easily be divided into groups of 15 on arrival. Greater access may then be possible to more operational areas.

Guides stay and assist learning for the duration of the visit.

Please see below a downloadable list of some of the topics our volunteers can cover during your visit.
