An event day for the fans of electric traction and electric units, plus diesel train rides.
Join us for The Essex Electrics Exhibition, an open day supported by our friends at the Clacton Express Preservation Group. Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Electrification to Ipswich in 1987, Come and see the museum’s newest electric acquisitions, The Class 309 and 317.
Both will be open and on display allowing you to get up close and look inside each vehicle. There will be guided tours and talks throughout the day alongside a large Exhibition of rare and historic artefacts, many of which are to be on public display for the first time.

Check out our working Restoration Shed, See how the volunteers are getting on with the restoration of Lamport, the magnificent Victorian Goods Shed, period Waiting Rooms & Signal Box as well as the Thompson Centre & Train themed Children’s Playground, our site of over 10 acres is ideal if you would like to bring your own picnic.

Diesel Train Rides
One of our diesel trains will be in operation for rides, and will run with no fixed timetable from 10:30 to 15.00, and you can have as many rides as you like, whenever you like.

Feeling Hungry?
You can visit Platform Two Cafe, which is run by our external suppliers, Stour Valley Catering – they’re open from 10am – 4pm (please note that food is not served by Platform Two Cafe after 2pm during the winter months) and serve tasty breakfast, lunch & snack options, as well as coffee, tea & a range of cold beverages.

The Museum is a registered Charity run by Volunteers, Gift Aid is a simple way for UK Tax Payers to allow the Museum to claim an additional 25% of the ticket price from HMRC.
Please note, prebooking closes at midnight before the event, tickets are then available on the door at the prices shown above.
